St. Anthony of Paduva
Total number of festival days 13

St. Anthony was born in Lisben in 1195, August 15. Around 1210 he became an Augustinian Canon. Shortly after he had seen the bodies of the Franciscan martyrs (martyred in Morocco, January 16, 1220) brought to Portugal he became a novice in the Franciscan Oreer, 1220-1221. From 1221-1222 he lived as a hermit Montepaolo. In the autumn of 1222 he was to preach in the province of Romagna. He appointed first lector of Theology in the Order in 1223 or 1223. Later in 1224, he was sent to preach in France. In 1227 he returned to Italy and after 1228 he lived in Paduva. In June 13, 1231, he died and on May 30, 1232, he was canonized. In June 16, 1946, he was declared a doctor of the Church. He had his greatest success, however, preaching in France and Italy and converting heretics. His sermons are notable for their learning and gentleness

Song in praise of St. Anthony

You the pure soul
Performing thousands of miracles each day
We eagerly came in search of you
Bless us your devotees

We may forget to ask
You never failed to give
When we forget to ask
You are generous to give before being asked

You are fortunate
To carry Jesus in your holy arms
Pray for Jesus’s blessings
Each day for us Anthony
